Week 4

Context

This week, I created a video highlight package of the Man Utd U21 3-2 Barnsley game. My target audience was 35-50-year-old males who enjoy football, have short attention spans, and watch YouTube—perhaps prioritising football videos.

Research

Technical

For my video package, i used Adobe Premiere Pro because it is an industry-standard editing software so i am able to work with multiple video and audio tracks. The main piece of hardware I used was my laptop, as it allows me to complete my work both at school and at home. Additionally, Mac devices are well-suited for running Premiere Pro smoothly.

Story

My narrative will be similar to the Barnsley V Man U Highlight package. This will include kick off, goals and full time.

Style

My inspiration for the video package came from short sports highlight shows like the Man Utd v Chelsea, which cater to audiences who prefer quick, engaging overviews rather than full match coverage. With that in mind, I aimed to make my edits feel like a professional highlight reel—tight, energetic, and easy to follow.

Practical Skills

I developed my editing precision using Adobe Premiere Pro while creating my video highlight package. For example, when finding key match moments, I zoomed in on the timeline and made precise cuts to ensure professional transitions between clips. An example of this can be seen below.

I organised my timeline, layered video and audio tracks, and used precise cuts and transitions to create a smooth, professional highlight sequence. You can also see how I managed different clips, sound effects, and commentary to keep the pacing energetic and engaging throughout the edit.

Evaluation and Reflection

What went well:

  • The timeline was well-organised in Adobe Premiere Pro, making the editing process efficient and easy to manage.
  • I paid close attention to detail by zooming in on the timeline and making precise cuts.
  • I worked efficiently with multiple video and audio tracks to produce the highlight package.

Even better if:

  • Adding more dynamic camera angles during the slow-motion replay would make key moments stand out even more.
  • Including graphics or player name captions could help the audience follow the action and understand key highlights better.
  • Paid closer attention to balancing background music, commentary, and in-game audio would make the overall sound design feel more polished and immersive.
