Week 3

Context

This week, I developed my skills at Classic FM Day, which gave me the opportunity to work with industry professionals. For this, we created a highlight package of the most exciting goals from the Champions League, matchweek 1, paired with the Champions League theme song. My target audience is 35-50 males who listen to Classic FM, enjoy football, and perhaps have higher-paying jobs. I would platform this on Classic FM.

Research

Technical

For my highlights package, I used Adobe Audition because as it is a industry-standard audio editing software designed for detailed editing, precise cuts, and multitrack projects. In addition, the main piece of hardware I used was my laptop—this is because I’m able to complete my work at school as well as at home, and also Mac is suitable for Audition

Story

For my narrative, I wanted to create a montage of all the most exciting moments in matchweek 1. I wanted to engage the listener with both the commentary and also the constant Champions music in the background. This is so my listener is able to fully engage with my entire package and maintain focus.

Stylistic

My inspiration came from short sports highlight shows, such as the Champions League Matchday 1, whose target audiences want quick, engaging recaps rather than full matches. Bearing this in mind, my edits aimed to resemble professional highlight reels—tight, energetic, and clear.

Practical skills

I developed my precision in audio editing using Adobe Audition. I zoomed in and cut directly on the spike of the crowd cheer, ensuring the edit was clean. Examples are down below.

I also improved my package by shaping the highlights into a natural narrative. For example, I opened with the first goal, layered commentary tightly, and ended with a final crowd cheer to maintain audience engagement.

Evaluation and reflection

What went well:

  • I successfully identified all of the most exciting goals with clear commentary.
  • I managed to complete my work in time, which showed that I can adapt my workflow to meet deadlines.
  • I was able to create clean transitions between clips—I used crowd noises to blend clips together

Even better if:

  • I could speed up the process of finding key moments without having to listen and go through the entire match
  • I could have included more of a short introduction into my highlights package.
  • I could have looked for feedback from my teacher and classmates earlier so i could refine my piece faster.
